Breeder Rescue 2003
On
Tuesday, July 22, 2003, we received 7 three year old unneutered ferrets (4
males - Brock, Brodie, Fergus and Keefer, 3 females - Anika, Laila and Mika) from a back yard breeder in the area.
None of the ferrets were used to being handled and were very scared. All ferrets
needed blood tests before being spayed or neutered.
The
good news is all ferrets were strong and healthy and slowly adjusted to being in a new enviroment (we even managed to get a couple of them
to do a weasle dance in their new play enclosure). Lots of assistance was needed to help clean the cages and to help pay the resulting vet bills.
As
of August 31, 2003 all 7 ferrets had been spayed/neutered and received
their shots. Six of the seven ferrets recovered fine. Kiefer had additional
complications (an abscess in the groin) that required additional treatment
from the vet and additional medications. As of September 7, Kiefer was doing
much better.
Total expenses $2,400. Total Donations received:
$885 (A special thank you to Minto for their generous donation!).
